Why should a Floridian fly to Oregon to go to the beach? Come have a look

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

The tip came from a man with no hair on his head and plenty of insulation on his body. He was standing at a viewpoint in Cape Meares, a panoramic detour along the Oregon coast whose natural beauty typically lulls visitors into hushed reverence. But not this guy, who was pointing out a pocket beach tucked between colossal rock formations to a friend. He blurted out its whereabouts for all within decibel range to hear.

Spirit Airlines is Doing Something Right, and That’s Finally Disclosing Fees

Friday, July 16th, 2010

We know, we know. Spirit Airlines is the devil, especially with their horrible history of missteps that have them alienating travelers and making complete fools of themselves. There is one thing they’ve recently done right however, and that is to lift the veil on their website to easily display every itemized extra fee that goes into bulking up the price of your ticket.

The new website design was launched at the end of June, and they’re even calling it “full disclosure fares.” The image above is what you’ll see when you choose your flight segments, before paying for your ticket. Then, just before entering your credit card information, you’ll be able to choose the extra options that really bring in the extra money for Spirit. This includes carry-on and checked baggage fees, seat assignments fees and travel insurance.

So add a few of those options onto the price above, and this roundtrip ticket for a random few days in August between Chicago and Orlando is over $300 for one person. You might as well just fly on a legacy airline so at least your carry-on will be free.

You May Fly on ‘My WINGS’ During Your Next Trip to Germany

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

If you’ve booked your transatlantic flight to Europe already and are still thinking about which low cost carrier to use to get around, we’ve got another one to add to the mix. Joining the crowded field is My WINGS—they seem to enjoy capitalization. The airline will be based in Germany at Friedrichshafen Airport. They’ll be fighting it out for market share with other cheap carriers like Germanwings and Iceland Express; however, My WINGS won’t be going to any similar destinations so they should get a good headstart.

Rome, London, and Alicante are just a few of the destinations that they plan to visit when things start up next month. As of now the airline is looking to fill up the tanks and stuff the cabin full of passengers beginning August 11. We’re eager to see what their livery looks like plastered against the MD-87 aircraft that they plan to use.
